Upside down, danced
Soft entries
Long lunge, long reach, or a cartwheel.
A way out
Learn to come down before you go up.
Play and experiment
Move the legs around; find the balance.
Sound familiar?
- Going over the top feels like falling
- Wrists sore from floorwork
- Inversions feel rigid, not danced
- Classes rarely teach the handstand itself

In Ben’s words
Ben Lowrey started learning handstands in 2013, came to hand balancing through yoga and began teaching at the end of 2015.
“Think of this as kind of handstand ballet.”
“Be willing to experiment. Move your legs around, shift them in all directions, swap them from one side to the other, rotate the hips around.”
“People with a dance background tend to find this easier because they're used to moving their limbs in elegant ways.”

Handstand questions from dancers
What happens after 30 November?
The founding price of £47 is for purchases made by the end of 30 November 2026, UK time. From 1 December 2026 the library costs £67. Buying at £47 gets you exactly the same access, and the same 14-day refund, as buying at £67.
Do contemporary dancers need a handstand?
Not for most work. Comfort with weight in the hands and upside down helps floorwork and inversions.
How do I get comfortable going upside down?
Wall first, way down first, and small playful entries. Ben's cue: be willing to experiment.
How do I enter a handstand softly?
With a long lunge and a long reach, or a cartwheel, rather than a kick.
Is this for dance students under 18?
No. The library is for adults 18 and over.
Why pay £47 when there are free videos?
The tutorials and drills are free. The library adds the full courses and a 12-week order.

Who it isn’t for
- It is not a quick fix. There are no promised timelines: a handstand takes regular practice over time.
- It is not live coaching. The library is recorded teaching, so nobody watches or corrects your form.
- It is not for anyone a doctor or physiotherapist has told to avoid being upside down.
- Ben says himself that the press to handstand is not right for every body.
